Spring Awakening
Florida State University Spring 2012- Directed by Fred Chappell; Scenic design by Ariel Emmerson
As the technical director, I budgeted, drafted, and oversaw build with my assistant technical director. I collaborated closely with the scenic designer and we did many samples to explore the best ways to execute the design. The three installations were made of steel, and had wood, muslin, and rope attached to them. The vertical trusses were climbed by the actors, up to 6 feet, and the front platform had a trap door that was automated with pneumatic cylinders that was a graduate class project. The show had some audience seating onstage in the proscenium house, which was another element that I oversaw to make sure we were within codes of egress.
